How it’s calculated
Seed (lb) = area ÷ 1,000 sq ft × rate. New-lawn rates: bluegrass 2–3 lb, tall fescue 6–8 lb, rye 7–9 lb per 1,000 sq ft.

Tips from the trade
- Split the seed in half and sow in two directions for even cover.
- Keep the seedbed moist (not soaked) until the grass is established.
